Liuzhou Forest City - China

It will have houses, hospitals, hotels, schools, offices ... all covered by about 40 thousand trees and a million plants. This giant oxygen bag will help absorb tons of carbon dioxide and provide habitat for multiple forms of life.
In the city of Liuzhou, in southern China, Liuzhou Forest City will be built, an entirely new area that will, at the end of its construction in 2020, have the capacity to accommodate 30,000 people.

But the great innovation of Stefano Boeri Architetti's project is the presence of plants and trees in all buildings, of all sizes and functions. There will be plants not only in the parks and gardens, but also on the facades and on the buildings.

It will allow the city to be self-sufficient in energy, contribute to improving air quality, absorbing 57 tons of CO2 and fine dust per year, decrease the average air temperature, create noise barriers and improve the biodiversity of living species, generating habitat for birds, insects and small animals that inhabit the territory of Liuzhou.

The new green city will link to Liuzhou via a fast rail line used by electric cars.

Liuzhou Forest City will have all the characteristics of a self-sufficient urban space. It will have geothermal energy for indoor air conditioning and solar panels on the roofs to collect renewable energy.

Occupying 175 hectares along the Liujiang River, it will have houses, offices, hotels, hospitals, schools and other buildings entirely covered with plants and trees. In all, it will host 40,000 trees and almost a million plants of more than 100 species.
